Been loving my 5d since i got it. Haven't been able to cut the 30p in with my Varicam 24p without a reverse telecine process. Im excited to be able to match them easily. Im really wondering what else they will include in the firmware update and how the 7d comparisons will match up after the firmware.....
ive been refreshing the page http://www.canon.com/eos-d/
every so often in case there is an announcement or they post it earlier. apparently canon service centers are already installing the firmware if you live near one....

Scott Alexander just emailed this to me..

"Please note that for those that have installed the v2.0.3 should update it to the 2.0.4, even if they don't anticipate applying the Custom C1, C2 or C3 settings.

Also note: an important feature of this firmware upgrade is the raising of sound recording from 44.1 KHz to industry-standard 48KHz setting. Those users who will be doing higher-level editing, mixing sound tracks, or recording sound from additional recording devices during video, will noticeably simplify their workflow, and have a small increase in the quality of on-board sound."

Jeff Lee just emailed this to me:

Just to be totally clear that their 5D is fine: this 'bug' only applies if you're shooting in C1, C2, or C3 modes (on the mode selection dial) AND you have the audio set to manual levels AND you loose power (or the camera turns itself off).

Here come the whiplash fixes:) This one is from juicedLink:

The DN101 was calibrated under the assumption that the 5D AGC is running full throttle for the mode when the AGC Disable is NOT enabled.

You will need to recalibrate the DN101 meter.

Here is the procedure for accomplishing this.

- Connect your CX preamp and DN101 with your microphone of choice, and your 5D (with the new firmware installed).
- Set your DN101 where the AGC Disable mode is OFF.
- Manually override the 5D AGC, and throttle back the gain so it is about 1/3 full gain.
- Speak into your microphone, and adjust your juicedLink CX preamp to the peaks are just splashing into -12dB full scale on the 5D meter.
- Use a 1/16” screwdriver (very small) and adjust (turn down) the potentiometer that is located behind the M1 hole in the DN101.
- Adjust the M1 potentiometer so that the DN101 meter matches up with the 5D meter, where the peaks are hitting the 3rd green LED, and does not hit the 4th amber LED.

My friend Scott Alexander put this together to help explain what the new firmware entails:

Here’s the site:

http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&t...

Firmware Version 2.0.3 incorporates five enhancements to the
movie function and a fix to the manual sensor cleaning function
of the EOS 5D Mark II camera.
1. Adds or changes the following movie frame rates
NTSC:
1920x1080:30 fps (changed - actual 29.97fps)
1920x1080:24 fps (added - actual 23.976 fps)
640x480:30 fps (changed - actual 29.97fps)
PAL:
1920x1080:25 fps (added - actual 25.0 fps)
1920x1080:24 fps (added - actual 23.976 fps)
640x480:25 fps (added - actual 25.0 fps)
2. Adds a function for manually adjusting the sound recording level (64 levels).
3. Adds a histogram display (brightness or RGB) for shooting movies in manual exposure.
4. Adds shutter-priority AE mode (Tv) and aperture-priority AE (Av) mode to the exposure
modes for shooting movies.
5. Changes the audio sampling frequency from 44.1 KHz to 48 KHz.
6. Fixes a phenomenon where communication between the camera and the
attached lens is sometimes interrupted after manual sensor cleaning.
(This phenomenon only affects units with Firmware Version 1.2.4.)
